The Kurty D Show

017 - Sound Waves with Brick Howze

Episode Summary

Welcome to The Kurty D Show, a podcast presenting unique perspectives shaping the world. Each episode showcases stories of transformation both in business and in life. This week, I am excited to share my conversation with my new friend, Brick Howze. I met him surfing at the Kelly Slater’s Surf Ranch of the "Making Waves" event in November 2021. He is a self-taught autodidact that has mastered the art of learning online. He’s channeled his uniqueness and creativity through music, photography, design, and most recently, surfing. This guy is on fire as he is a six-time platinum producer with a number one rap hit under his belt collaborating with artists like Travis Scott, Kyle, and Tyler the Creator. This conversation gave me chosen goosebumps with the profound wisdom, excitement, and energy that Brick is bringing to the party. During the pandemic, Brick started surfing and fell in love with the sport, everything that it has to offer and he launched a project called Black Sand Surf. Brick believes surf culture is ready for a renaissance of inclusivity, peace, and accountability among all humans who share the ocean. And I agree wholeheartedly that the ocean is indeed for everybody. The show has so much to offer for anyone inspired by surfing, street culture, creativity, learning, and most importantly, inclusivity.

Tweetable Quotes:

“And I felt like no matter what group of people you were to put together from around the world, no matter who they were, no matter what their background is, or what they do. Or whether they knew how to surf or not, I think that’s one thing about that’s basis it’s such a novelty.”

“The real prize in all of that is when those moments are happening, just appreciating them as they are and when they are.”

“Then, time goes on and I’m doing videos for him, doing his photos for him and I’m just like being myself and I’m just getting interested in other things.”

“The problem was like there was nowhere for us to console and congregate so through the creative skills that I have, and just my voice and even the platform, we can actually make noise about this and it’s just cool.”

“The problem was like there was nowhere for us to console and congregate so through the creative skills that I have, and just my voice and even the platform, we can actually make noise about this and it’s just cool.”

“It’s just cool to trust your process, whatever it is!”
